Date and time: Wednesday, October 10th, 1:15 – 4:00

Henry Goertzen and Chris de Feijter (NVCI Master Instructors) will host a Half-Day Advanced Seminar for NLSD staff members who received at least the NVCI Basic certification in the past (Blue Card). Participants learn to organize their thinking about how behaviour escalates and why those behaviours occur in students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other communication challenges. In addition, participants learn how to prevent those behaviours from occurring, and how to intervene effectively.

You’ll learn:

* A basic understanding of ASD.

* How ASD affects behaviour.

* Adaptations of NVCI concepts.

* Interventions based on the unique needs and learning styles of students with ASD.

* How to quickly assess escalating behaviour.

* Supports for students with self-injurious behaviours.

After this Advanced refresher, your NVCI certification will be renewed, and you will have developed a much deeper understanding of the basic concepts of NVCI, as well as how to apply these concepts when working with students with ASD. After attending the full day, each participant will walk away with official certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (Blue Card Certificate).

THIS TRAINING IS OPEN TO NVCI CERTIFIED NLSD STAFF MEMBERS ONLY. If you were trained by any of the NLSD Certified NVCI Instructors in the last two years, you can sign up for this training. If you do not have certification, but are interested in NVCI, please take a look at the NVCI one-day Seminar done by other certified NVCI trainers.
