Penny Settee – Childhood Trauma: Finding a Way Through

The second workshop was on Childhood Trauma: Finding a Way Through. Each workshop was based on research, the development of the brain and its impact on the threat/stress response system, internal states, attachment styles, emotions, behaviours and strategies to assist children. The common thread in both workshops was to develop relationships with children, to allow them to play, to grow and develop, to accept them wholeheartedly, to make them feel secure and to be empathetic. As a parent, it is also essential to provide physical contact and be present by putting away your phone, electronics, turning off the television, and making time to connect with your child at their level, face to face, using their language so their emotional side of their brain will develop along with their cognitive side.
